As you continue working with a fi le, you should save it periodically to ensure that your
latest changes are included in the stored version. That way, in the event of a power surge
or problem with your computer, you won’t lose much work. Saving every 10 minutes proves
good insurance for your fi le. To save your latest changes, click the Save button on the
Quick Access toolbar or press Ctrl+S. If you must, you can click the File tab and then click
Save, but why choose two steps when you can choose one?
Files created in the 2013 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access cannot be opened
with versions of those programs prior to the 2007 versions by default. You can download
and install a compatibility pack to handle the fi les; at this time, the latest version of the
Compatibility Pack is at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details
.aspx?id=3 , but it’s possible an update could be released at a later time. If that’s the
case, you also can go to the main Offi ce download website at http://www.microsoft
.com/en-us/download/default.aspx. Click in the Search Download Center text box at
the top, type Compatibility Pack , and press Enter. Check the Search results for “Microsoft
Offi ce Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats,” and download it.
